The Very Best Wedding Venues in South Georgian Bay

There is no shortage of great venues to choose from these days, but you’re not just looking for any venue, you’re looking for the very best wedding venue in south Georgian Bay. I can’t say that I blame you. I wouldn’t want to choose just any venue either. Whether you’re looking for a barn, or a vineyard, or something with a view of the bay, or perhaps you want something a little more intimate, it’s here.

Over the last few years, more and more venues keep popping up as this area grows in popularity. It’s really no wonder why. It’s a stones throw (well, if you have a very very very good arm) from the city, but it has more than its fair share of natural beauty. The turquoise water of the bay, the sweeping vistas, and we haven’t even mentioned the escarpment yet. I mean, it’s clearly my favourite place in all of Ontario, perhaps even the world. With forests and fields, vineyards and orchards, rivers and lakes, cliffs and valleys, southern Georgian Bay is an excellent choice for your wedding. Heck, I chose it! I got married on the shores of Georgian Bay not far from Owen Sound. So I get it.

Sometimes referred to as the new cottage country, it’s the perfect place to plan a destination wedding without the major expense or having to hop on a plane to get there. (Of course, that depends on where you originally hail from. I do have an amazing couple from New Zealand coming to get married here) You can easily plan a full weekend of adventures with your guests, and there are plenty of options for air bnbs, cottages, ski chalets, or hotels for your guests to stay in.

But now comes the hard part. Where do you start on your hunt for that perfect venue? Right here. As a permanent resident of this area running a local wedding blog, and having shot far too many weddings here to count, I’ve got your back.

In no particular order, here are my very favourite wedding venues in south Georgian Bay:

Heartwood Hall

It’s no secret that I love Heartwood Hall. I have since the moment it opened. I’m in love with the vintage/plant shop below and the concert hall itself is dreamy. If there’s an event at Heartwood, I want to be there. The very first time I strolled through the doors, my eyes lit up and I started imaging it as a wedding space. This isn’t your typical wedding venue, but then you’re not a typical couple, are you? There’s a skylight in the centre of the space, an outdoor patio, a gorgeous bar and a stage.

One thing to note, it is on the second floor with only stair access.

Grandma Lambe’s

If you’re on the hunt for the perfect wedding barn venue, this is the one. Grandma Lambe’s is a meaford legend with the best pies you’ve ever eaten and apple orchards that go on forever. The two floor barn itself is full of rustic charm and includes twinkle lights and chandeliers for some added romance. You could easily get married inside or outside of the barn.

The surrounding orchards make for some of the very best photo backdrops, especially if you happen to plan your wedding around the apple blossoms or before harvest. I know everyone’s all about the cherry blossom festival, and those are beautiful n all, but apple blossoms! Those are my favourite.

Alpine Ski Club

The spacious, modern clubhouse at Alpine is definitely worth checking out. You have a stunning view of the slopes through a giant wall of windows. I love the shape of the building itself. It really stands out, especially at night. As with many of the venues, this space comes complete with in-house catering. Not gonna lie, it’s delicious.

There are plenty of gorgeous spots to take photos, and indoor and outdoor options for your wedding ceremony. Even if it does happen to rain on your wedding or reception day (as it did on mine), you’ll be totally covered and not disappointed with having to have your wedding in their indoor space.

Georgian Bay Club

Do you want the friendliest staff to work with, an incredible view of the bay, a clubhouse that is warm and inviting and also gorgeous grounds as a backdrop for your wedding? Yep. That’s Georgian Bay Club. I have never worked with nicer people. They are so full of love and joy and genuinely want you to have the greatest day of your life. There are plenty of spaces for you to have stunning photos taken, and the backdrop of the bay for your wedding ceremony is ideal. If you’re looking for something a little different, opt to have your ceremony inside in the clubhouse. There’s a wall of windows, and the wood ceiling brings a cozy cottage feeling. Finding a venue that has both indoor and outdoor locations for your ceremony is ideal, just in case, ya know?

It’s worth noting: the food was also excellent. (I’m all about the food, friends)

Ladybank Farm

A century old schoolhouse tucked behind some beautiful shade trees. This venue is intimate and is full of romantic charm. I was immediately struck by the space, the light and the decor hold so much character. I’m pretty sure I was unable to hold in my excitement and immediately said “oh my god! i want to shoot here!” before realizing the owner was there. Luckily he didn’t think I was crazy.

If you’re looking for something super charming and very intimate, this may be perfect for you!

Georgian Peaks

With the brand new lodge and the recent addition of ceremonies being held at the top of the hills, this venue is by far one of the best in the area. This has always been one of my favourite places to photograph in the area, but the new, modern lodge with that giant wall of windows facing the slopes and with ceremonies taking place with the most breathtaking view of the bay. Holy hannah.

You can see what I mean about that breathtaking view in a recent post on Georgian Bay Bride.

Serenity Cottage

One of the very best cottage options on the bay, this is perfect for an intimate backyard affair without having to own your very own cottage. The building itself has that cozy cottage warmth feeling to it, while also still having more than enough space for your wedding party to get ready.

Then there’s the backyard. Plenty of space for a tent, and your very own private stone beach. A stunning location to watch the sun set. You can have your first dance under the stars and listen to the waves roll up onto the stones.

Cobble Beach

This venue is a little off the beaten path, so you may not know it’s there. But it’s there and it’s definitely worth noting. A little bit north of Owen Sound in a town called Kemble, it’s right on the water, which means that the view is to die for. Plus they get some of the greatest sunsets. I’m a big fan. Also going to throw this out there: some of the best wedding food I’ve eaten.

There are three options for your reception: the main clubhouse, the tent or the pavilion. All of which are stunning, but offer different a different feel for your evening with family & friends.

Sequel Inn

A gorgeous space tucked in the hills of Creemore, Ontario. Sequel Inn has plenty of room for an outdoor ceremony, or you can spread out inside the historic barn. There are plenty of options for gorgeous backdrops, and room for your friends & family to wander and play all kinds of lawn games. There’s also a river not too far from the house if you’re feeling adventurous. You may also be able to have a bonfire or spot the milky way.

Georgian Hills Vineyards

Looking for another vineyard option? Are you amazed to see that there is more than one vineyard in this area? This may well have been the apple region for quite some time, but Grey County is also one of the up and coming wine regions.
At Georgian Hills Vineyards, you’ll be surrounded by vineyards and farmers fields. There is no shortage of gorgeous landscapes to choose as your backdrop. There’s plenty of space for a tent and still room to go and have a look at the stars if you need a break from dancing.

SPRING CREEK GAVEL FARM

Spring Creek Gavel Farm is a century old barn & farmhouse. The farmhouse boasts beautiful light for getting ready. The barn is tastefully updated with modern amenities, while maintaining its original charm. The property also features a pond with a footbridge, mature gardens and a picturesque outdoor wedding ceremony area in the forest so you can have some shade while you say your vows. This is a great place to get married if you want to have an outdoor wedding with a plan in case it rains.

Frances

I'm Frances-- a photographer with a fine art background and a serious soft spot for love, wide open spaces, wandering barefoot and giving epic hugs. I'm drawn to connections, anything outdoors, raw emotion, natural light and the human experience. I am a big believer in bear hugs, loving big, and making things by hand. I think I look ridiculous when I laugh, but it never stops me from doing so.

Photography for me is all about connection and creating a window into your lives for future generations to peer into. Every one and every relationship is unique. Your images should be too. Annie Leibovitz said it best "When I say I want to photograph someone, what it really means is that I'd like to know them." That is so true for me. I don't just want to photograph you, I want to know you.
